Panoramic Pods

Since discovering Panoramic Pods during that dreaded year of lockdowns, it is somewhere we have revisited several times since. Our first visit was not long after staycation spots were opened back up to the public, and we jumped at the opportunity to break up the monotony of working from home. It is a perfect spot for a long weekend break, or a couple of days away for us. It is in the South-West corner of Northumberland, where the county meets the North Pennines. This means you are a stones throw from Hadrians Wall country, as well as being within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a short-ish drive away from Cumbria and the Lake District.

There are four pods in total on the farm. We have stayed in this one a couple of times now, it’s our favourite. This one is called the Executive. The pods sit in a line of four, this one is furthest from the farm house, but also sits slightly further apart and forward from it’s neighbour compared to the other three. This can prove advantageous in those awkward runs back in from the wood-fired hot tub.

Inside, all four pods are really cosy for two, but can sleep 4 through the use of the sofabed, which is great for us getting away as a family (although we have been here a couple of times without the kids, but shhh, don’t tell them that!) There is a heater as well as a wood-burning fire to keep the pod warm in the colder months, and possibly the hottest and most powerful shower I’ve ever had the pleasure to use!

This corner of Northumberland is great for dark-skies, though I’ve never quite been able to catch the milky way core over the Pod. I’ve come close a couple of times, though I’ve normally been beaten in trying to capture it by clouds, or more often than not, Strongbow Dark Fruits.

We have been here at various times of the year, but the autumn is my favourite. The colours in the hills, both surrounding the pods and within the AONB is absolutely stunning. Many of the nearby villages are simply magical in autumn hues - Blanchland and St Johns Chapel to name just a few that we have visited at this time of year, though that list could go on and on.

The below images of autumn were all taken from the deck of the Pod, so will hopefully give a glimpse of how stunning the surrounding area is at this time of year.

Lastly, one of the favourite things for our little ones about staying here (aside from the hot tub) is the fact that the farm is a working farm, and therefore, comes with animals for them to looks at. Horses, sheep, donkeys, pigs, even guinea pigs!

If you would like to see more of my landscape work, moving forward most of the images will be here in blog format, but I will notify of new entries on my Instagram page for landscapes - @photog.righ
